The trailer was interesting... special effects were out of this world... his (jump) abilities were damn cool... something that I guess a lot of people would want to have... cos if I REALLY have his 'power', I would jump right out the the box-office and demand my money back! Cos the movie SUCKED BIG TIME!!

In short, a genetic abnormality allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between 'Jumpers' and 'Paladins' who have sworn to kill them. To his amazement the Paladins have shock nets and whips to tie down Jumpers so they cannot Jump.

The movie did not explain a lot of things. why was he abandoned at 5? how is he related to Griffin (another jumper)? did the dad die? did samuel l. jackson get out of the grand canyon eventually? who are the paladin and why do they want to kill jumpers?

With so many unanswered questions, the whole movie became a over-hyped travelogue instead... so if you're into travelogues, you might find it interesting... but then again, nothing compared to National Geographics.

I want my money back!

P.S. There was a man watching the movie last night... i think he got too excited after the credits rolled, and did a jump (over the rows of cinema seats)... but then, he tripped on the arm rest, broke it and almost fell down...

ReviewThe TattooistDec 4, '07 10:39 AM

A first ever Singapore-New Zealand film collaboration focuses on a thrilling tale of tattoos and tribesmen in The Tattooist, where the supernatural and the spiritual take over from the ordinary life and tattoos take on a frightening new dimension.

American tattoo artist Jake Sawyer explores and exploits ethnic designs from around the world. At a tattoo expo in Singapore (was there ever one??), he glimpses the exotic world of traditional Samoan tatau in the work of the fiercely proud Alipati and falls in love with Alipati’s attractive cousin, Sina.

A pervasive, angry spirit is unleashed when Jake steals an ancient Samoan tattooing tool, and Jake’s art takes a dangerous turn as everyone he touches faces mortal peril.

Hoping to put an end to this curse, Jake follows the Samoans to Auckland, where he meets an old adversary, tattoo artist Crash and a new one, the respected Samoan elder Aleki Va’a. His investigation takes him on a devastating journey into the dark side of Pacific mysticism. However, Jake has to get through this in order to recover his own soul, save the woman he loves and escape with his life.

It started off like a travelogue for Singapore, and i managed to spot only 2 Singaporean actors in it... other than that, it is nothing scary about the show... watching 881 is more scary than this!! A letdown for a horror-fan like me.

*Zzzzzzz*

It was a tussle between SUNSHINE and this one... but in the end, i decided to go for a movie that doesn't need me to think so much...

The movie started off quite slowly.... it's almost like you know what's gonna happen (since the movie was based on The 10 biblical plagues).... but then, the sudden plot twist towards the end was really COOL!!!! You would never have expected it. I didn't.

On the whole, i really enjoyed it!!

Anyway, the story goes like this:
"Since her family was tragically killed, Katherine Winter (Hilary Swank) has battled against religious faith, including her own. The former Christian missionary has become a university professor and a world-renowned expert at refuting religious phenomena. When Doug (David Morrissey) approaches her to investigate events at a small Louisiana town that appears to have been struck by the ten Biblical plagues, she accepts the challenge. With everyone in the town pointing to a little girl named Loren (AnnaSophia Robb) as the source of the dark forces that threaten the community, Katherine’s investigation turns even more bizarre. As she begins to have difficulty explaining the occurrences with scientific evidence, she realizes that she may have to look deeper within herself and reclaim her faith if she is ever to understand the omens that surround her."

Blog EntryWinter Solstice 2006Dec 21, '06 10:57 AM
for everyone

December 21st 2006 marks the solstice - the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere...

me, being cantonese, would usually be at a dinner gathering with my family and relatives... and usually in some posh restaurant (it's usually paid by the richer uncle....)

this year was no exception, we had our dinner over at The China Club on the 52nd floor of Capitol Tower... the place is damn posh!...so posh that my cousin was 'asked' not to walk around the restaurant cos he was in bermudasas there was a strick dress code... and also baby prams were not allowed to be seen being pushed around the club cos they cannot risk scratching the flooring...it's an exclusive club... oooo.... excellent services, fantastic view of the port, and not-too-bad food.... but the total bill of $3K plus? not too worth it... cos i was still hungry after the whole event...

actually, my day started very early today... ah heng and I met up with one of our vendors over at bras besah mac to discuss some project proposal... we didn't want to go to office and then having to leave for our annual department christmas celebration...

this year's celebration seemed hurriedly put together... probably becos of some excess funds that need to be spent... but kudos to the stef and the other committee members to pulling it off. other than the buffer lunch (which was not too good), it was quite an enjoyable event... we had games where we need to coerce a fellow colleague to say 'NO' to win over his/her rubberband... i even won $15 'transforming' our collegue into a 'walking christmas tree'... of course, there was the usual gift exchange... i got a shower gel set piggy piggy bank.

at around 3 pm, we made our way from the hotel to Bugis to catch "Night At The Museum"... remind me NEVER to go bugis again for movies... the sound totally sucked!! The show was quite entertaining... 'Dum Dum .. Gum Gum'... haha....

Show ended around 5ish, it was still early for dinner, so i hung around bugis for a while before making my way to capitol towers.... for the winter solstice dinner....

This year, somehow, the christmas feeling was just not there.... probably due to the busy work schedule... i didn't even have time to get gifts for my friends... and i didn't even send out christmas cards ... sorry guys.... i guess it's a break from the old routine...

It's going to be a quiet christmas for me this year.... i'm just gonna stay home and spend it with my family... i didn't plan anything.... YET.

Blog EntryBoys Night OutAug 31, '06 11:27 AM

i seriously wanted to unwind today... so i 'jio'-ed jules and layfoo to watch Monster House... i have been waiting to watch the movie ever since i saw the trailer many months ago, and also since i've been (am still) playing the game on my gameboy... however, ah-heng pre-warned us that it was a 'so-so' cartoon... but it was not meant to be a cartoon (if you're expecting Finding Nemo or Shrek, you'll be disappointed)... it's an Animated Feature...kinda like Corpse Bride... and it was wayyyy too frightening for children... so all you mummies and daddies out there...bring your children with caution...

It was 90 mins of pure delight! i think this show deserved the rave reviews it's been getting... all three of us thought it was a very good show to watch... there were many funny moments... and some frightful moments too... the characters had character... my take, a must see.... FOUR STARS!

After the movie, i was having a stomach upset ... could be the Carl's Jr burger i ate... hmmm... anyway... i tried to tahan as i NELed back with layfoo... at first i thought i could make it home... but... i had to stop at the dirty toilet at the interchange to do it! haha.. err... too much details...

Few pieces of good news today...

firstly, HUGE CONGRATS to preggy dwarfy, who gave birth to a healthy baby boy this morning!!! yeah!!! you rest well okay... :D i've helped you broadcast the good news to everybody liao... haha...

secondly, my boss told me that he'll be attending a conference in San Jose/San Francisco at the end of October... yippee? err...

thirdly, joakim gomez is finally OUT!!! IMO, it's about time!!!
